Testing hundreds of applications to ensure that they are compatible with the new version is a complex task which requires the coordination between multiple teams.

Solution

Microsoft provides a series of tools and resources to reduce the complexity, time and cost of solving application compatibility. A very useful resource available is the Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0, which includes the Application Compatibility Manager (ACM). aXelerate leverages and extends the ACM tool to help address the task of solving new version of Windows application compatibility.

The ACM is a very powerful tool designed to be used by single user and each user can easily make changes to the application database. In an enterprise environment, where there can be hundreds or thousands of applications, a more comprehensive tool which can give in real time a view on the application migration status is required.

aXelerate has developed the Application Compatibility Reporting Tool to be used by this client's engagement managers. The Application Compatibility Reporting Tool is a Web based application which extends the ACM, providing progress control and all the required functionality for a smooth migration, plus the accessibility of a web application with several enhancements.
